A Mango-Shaped Space by Wendy Mass

My son read this in 5th grade and told me then I'd love it (he sure did). It took me two years to finally get around to it, and he was right. This small window of time in a 12yo girl's life when things are changing all around her is done beautifully, with humor and honesty. Mia has a secret she's been hiding from everyone--her family, best friend, teachers--because she thought it made her a freak, and the time has come for her to reveal it. You're uncomfortable at times, laughing because you can 100% relate at others, and damp-eyed more than once. The voice is so 12, done just right. As soon as I finished this, I told my daughter (now in 5th grade) she needed to read it, too. So, so good.
