The Lost City of the Monkey God by Douglas Preston
5.0
I enjoyed the archeology and discovery of the book. A very fun book to read as if you are partaking in the adventure to Honduras. The last few chapters dig into tropical diseases as well as the impact of diseases brought from Europe. The author highlights pandemics (prior to COVID-19) and also interviews Dr Fauci about leishmaniasis that infects as a a parasite via sand flies and how it’s showing up in the US as climate changes allow for spread. I think Preston hopes to make a cautionary tale while reminding that no civilization lasts forever. We should live with humility and not think we’re above the lost city
