Love the world-building, military in combination with dragons (different from everything with dragons I've read so far) as well as the political aspect of it. The magic system is interesting and the intensity is great. Rebecca Yarros is great at making me feel like I imagine the characters do. I'd just be happy  with a lower level of spice and I could deal with a little less reminders of "oh, he's so hot". Everything else is good enough for me to be okay with that though.

Edit aka a few thoughts after my 3rd go-around (a year later): Xaden and Violet going from hate+attraction to full on emotional involvement, though complicated, felt a tad bit quick. Might just be that it build up within them for so long and then kind of burst out at once after being tied to each other. On a few occasions the world-building was a bit Info-dumpy and could have been a little more elegant, though most of the time it's built in quite cleverly. That aside, I still enjoy the story a lot and will only correct by 0.25 points downward.
