First off, we have another adorable, sweet book cover, but don’t let the cover fool you. ITS ALWAYS THE CUTE COVERS WITH ALL THE SPICE!

Initially I imagined that Olive and Jason’s dynamic would be along the lines of “enemies to lovers” , since they grew up together and Olive having a crush on her brother’s best friend, Jason, I imagined Jason and Olive not having the best relationship. Not sure why I thought that, but that was the impression I got from little bits I assumed. Thankfully I was completely wrong and reading the flash backs from when Olive and Jason were kids was sweet to read, especially from Olive’s perspective and how she was immediately enamored with Jason.

Right away, the story set the stage for Olive and Jason’s relationship and with the time jumps from them going from children to adults highlighted not only the changes they were through, but also how over the course of years, each character found a career that they loved. I also found it kind of ironic that with Olive’s book becoming a movie, the studio casted Jason, a.k.a. Olive’s childhood crush and essentially the inspiration for her male character lead in her book. I also loved reading how Jason was genuinely happy to Olive after so many years apart, but I felt a little bad for Olive since through her chapters we know that she was heartbroken when she found out what Jason truly thought of her when she was younger. Despite being apart from one another, it was sweet to see Jason be reunited with Olive, someone from his past who knew him as just himself and not as the superstar leading actor in Hollywood.

Over the course of the book, you could tell that Jason was starting to see Olive in a different way, especially seeing her physically haha. Even in the beginning, through Jason’s perspective, he admitted that seeing Olive not only made him happy, but he found himself drawn to her, noticing that she wasn’t the same “little Olive” he knew as a child. In a way, for Jason to be reunited with Olive, he had the chance to reconnect with her, and also see that she was a completely different women, one that made him feel certain emotions that he wouldn’t have considered in the first place.

I genuinely loved Olive and Jason’s dynamic. From Jason teasing and being playful with Olive, to Olive being carefree around Jason. This book had some amazing tropes from “marriage of convenience”, “friends to lovers”, “brothers best friend”. One of my favorite parts in this book was seeing how Jason’s perception of Olive changed, specifically Jason realizing that Olive was more than just his best friend’s little sister, he saw Olive as her own person, someone who’s smile he cherished immensely, loved spending time with, and couldn’t stop thinking about her.

Overall, I throughly enjoyed this book. Definitely wasn’t expecting the level of passion and spice in the story, especially with the cover depicting a “cute romantic comedy” vibe, but nonetheless I loved all the spice between Olive and Jason. From some funny moments, to some drama, passion, and loving sweet moments, this was a great book.
