House of Roots and Ruin by Erin A. Craig

OMG this book! I haven't read a gothic in a long time and now I'm thinking I should read more of them. This had me gripped from the beginning and I couldn't put it down. I loved the writing, and the plot was executed in precisely the right way and speed to keep me interested all the way through, even as it slowly got progressively darker and darker. I really liked that the ending was kept open to interpretation because towards the end I couldn't decide whether I preferred Verity with Alexander or Viktor and now I can imagine her with both. Whilst I would love EAC to follow this up to explain those last two chapters, just so I can read more of her, I do agree with the way it ended. It felt truly gothic and ambiguous and it was the perfect ending.
