The Guidal: Discovering Puracordis by Roxy Eloise

5.0

This was such an enjoyable read for me. This dystopian young adult novel was very nostalgic and reminded me of the novels, like Divergent, that I read growing up.

I really enjoyed the heroine of this story. Aurora is determined, passionate, and stubborn to a fault. Her character was relatable, and her emotions felt very realistic for her age (16), which often isn't the case in a lot of YA novels.

The story was on the shorter side but very fast-paced and engaging with all the twists and turns throughout the story. There is a lot of suspense and mystery woven into the plot as Aurora discovers more about herself and her past. While there isn't much magic in book one, there are a lot of references to the magic system that I am sure we will see a lot more of in the next book. I am really excited to see how the magic system develops in book two and what the characters will be able to do with their abilities.

The romance was also really well done. I am a sucker for an emotional love triangle, and the one in this story did not disappoint. It was angsty and tension-filled, and I loved every minute of it. I know who I am rooting for
