Medusa's Sisters by Lauren J.A. Bear

5.0

“I don’t demand veneration to survive. I will witness it all”

The book hits a oxymoronic truth about sisterhood. That you can be entangled for life to women who you will never actually know. I’ve read many books that are about the beauty, the joy and the satisfaction of sisterhood. This book is about the anger, guilt and confusion of how we grow and care for sisters instead.

I loved how grey choice and power were portrayed here. Great choice to not include Medusa as a narrator. The pride were gorgeous and while very intelectual, not overly saccharine

When next asked to choose between Circe and song if Achilles, I will respond with this book instead.

ONE CRITICISM: this is a slow to pick up speed book. The sisters visit Thebes first and while it lays good groundwork, if you are debating putting the book down bc it is too slow, just skip ahead to when they arrive in Athens.

“It is her very likeness… except the anger. I never knew her like that”
“The rage is for us”

“I was so tired of being resilient. I was no protector; I fixed nothing. I had been a negligent sister, not loving her enough to keep her safe, making too many reckless decisions. I was a horrible friend; I was a killer”
