This is a small town queer horror with a dash of urban fantasy, the occult, and eldritch horrors in which homophobes get brutally murdered. I don't need to say much, only that I had immense fun reading this, but also, had moments when I read with my breath held, feeling suspense, dread, and anxiety. Some of the things happening were hitting very close to home.
But it was a true page turner, I couldn't stop reading. I found characters very interesting, their stories engaging (and the structure of the novel is various character lives shown in a series of interconnected vignettes building one big story). My only issue is with the ending, it feels a bit too rushed. After the buildup and getting to know all the characters, everything in the end happens abruptly and is a bit underwhelming. However, I still find it a great book.
Also there's a natural comparison that my brain brought up reading this book. It reminded me of Mindight Mass by Mike Flanagan, except, this book was very enjoyable and fun, while Midnight Mass bored me half to death (sorry if you liked it!).
This is a second book by T. C. Parker that I read and really liked (first was Saltblood, which I loved very much) and plan on reading more, definitelly.
