The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin

4.0

It took me a while to get into this world and connect with the characters, but I am thinking that it might be more me than the book, as I have noticed that I would enjoy continuing the familiar series that I have already started much more easily than how much I would sometimes like the start of a new one.

The book starts with a Fifth Season, which designates devastating postapocalyptic seasons of varying length and type of factors making life hard to survive. We start by following three female characters until we start to understand how their stories are related (I won't spoil it for you). One is a girl taken away from her family, another a woman sent out on a mission, and the third a mother who just lost her son.

The stories involve a lot of gruesome details that depict how harsh humans can be and how tough it is to go through life when you don't fit in. Get acquainted with the spoilers before jumping in.
