Very steamy and sweet, I love the author’s funny and witty writing which makes for an engaging audiobook! I love the sense of community felt through Cyn’s welcoming family and Jucee’s colleagues. Cyn and Jucee both have good chemistry and I loved how passionate they were about their craft. I also loved the fat rep and the positivity around s3x work (Jucee’s a dancer at a strip club)!
I love friends-to-lovers romances, but ALKBF starts a little too close to them realizing they like each other so there wasn’t enough time spent establishing their friendship. Jucee and Cyn weren’t fleshed out enough outside their relationship with each other, so I didn’t grow as attached to them as I would’ve liked. For example, Jucee says that her son Imani is important in her life, but he wasn’t present enough. There’s a lack of communication from one of the characters which was a little annoying to read especially because it got repetitive, and the ending was a little abrupt. It’s perfect if you’re looking for a lighthearted, low-angst Black sapphic romance, especially since it’s Sapphic September!
