The Quiet Tenant by Clémence Michallon

5.0

The threefold narration of this story between the victims of this man's control, abuse, and crimes was so effective. At times it felt like the juxtaposition of the woman who was imprisoned and the woman who was being wooed drove the story further than the plot itself. The narrative portions with the daughter could have served to make the killer a more sympathetic character, but instead really exposed him for his true identity even to those he tried to hide it from. When reading it, I found myself thinking about it through the day, questioning why I was doing anything else other than reading.
