I learned so much about Chinese culture, traditions and society. I was also stunned by the societal restrictions that women experienced during this time. I had no idea about foot-binding and the reason for why it was done. My only complaint about this book is the detail about all the medicinal herbs. The story would have been better by not being bogged down with it. Recommend if you enjoy historical fiction.
