Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf

5.0

All of Woolfs books can be summarized in two sentences. Not much happens, even when it does, its written in a way that you almost miss the action. But that doesn't mean that her books anything less than extraordinary.

She writes about the most mundane situations in the most beautiful way. Her books don't have typical flawless protagonists, or antagonists as vicious as they can be. There are only human beings in her books. Complicated humans, that are always not what they appear to be.

Which also applies to the famous Mrs Dalloway; who is known for her parties and her essence that astounds everybody that meets her, but under that cold and stern pose, lies an unhappy wife and mother, that is often haunted by the past. We get a deep dive into her emotions and thoughts, so much so, that we come to think of her as a old friend.

Even other characters as dull as they may first seem to be, are explored mentally and emotionally, which leaves us no choice, but to sympathize with them.

And to think that the book takes place in the course of one day. And is less than 200 pages.
