Saving 6 by Chloe Walsh
5.0
”Something inside of me demanded I fight back, no matter how small or unimportant an argument might be. I couldn’t get ahold of it. It was like there was a demon living just beneath the surface of my skin, one that had taken too many kicks lying down and refused to take a single other.” ~ Joey Lynch

Saving 6 by Chloe Walsh left me deeply moved. Aoife's unwavering love for Joey, despite his flaws, resonated with me. She understood him like no one else, and their dynamic was both complex and heartwarming. Joey's struggles with addiction were portrayed realistically, and I appreciated the raw honesty in his character arc. Walsh's atmospheric writing immersed me in the story, and I couldn't put the book down. The plot, focusing on Joey and Aoife's relationship, was compelling, and their chemistry felt genuine. Despite Joey’s challenges, their connection felt like fate.
The depth of emotion and the characters' authenticity made this a standout read for me. While Aoife's behavior towards Joey's other relationships was sometimes irksome, her growth throughout the story was evident. Joey's portrayal as a misunderstood character (Joey is the personification of the: you don’t know the shit people are going through) added layers to the narrative, and I found myself rooting for him to find happiness. The book's focus on their relationship allowed me to connect deeply with the characters, setting the stage for what promises to be an emotional journey ahead. Saving 6 may not surpass the impact of Shannon and Johnny's story, but it holds its own as a poignant exploration of love, addiction, and redemption.
