Wylding Hall by Elizabeth Hand

Although this wasn't really the ghost story I thought I was walking into, I did still really enjoy my time with this book.

I really liked the way the story was told through interviews with the band and people associated with them, I thought it was a neat twist on a ghost story, and while it's been done before, it's definitely not commonplace. I do feel as though it was a strength in some places and a hindrance in others. Because everything is being told back to us from the past, there's really no suspense created. There's no tension. My heart was never really invested in this story. It never sped up; it  never stopped in anticipation. This story is very consistently paced and continues through everyone's points of view as time went on inside Wylding House.

I will say this. I'm not sure why this is hailed as a ghost story. There is a ghost, sure. But she shows up likeā€¦ twice. And not until halfway through the book.

To me, this was more of a story about the band, with a side of ghost story. I liked the story of the band, thankfully, so I wasn't entirely let down by the lack of ghost story.
