Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory has been a favorite film of mine since childhood. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has been a favorite film of mine since it came out in 2005. I somehow have never read the book. I opted to listen to this one and am really glad I did! The narrator was so entertaining, and there are even sound effects for added fun! I really loved listening to every second of this book. The story is everything you want it to be and more because of the things that got left out of the movies. It was especially interesting for me to see just how much truer the second film stayed to the book than the first one did! I've always heard that was the case, but one always has to see these things for themselves to really "get it," don't we?
This book will definitely go down as one of my favorite children's books! There is apparently a sequel, too, but after a bit of research I've decided I likely won't read it. To me, this story is complete as it is. It does, however, make me want to read more Roald Dahl, who is an author I have grossly ignored in my life. The rabbit hole of Roald Dahl's life and literary works is one that I've just dipped a toe in and will likely dive headfirst into here soon.
