The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank

5.0

The first time I read this was in 8th grade English. So many years later and this treasure still left me feeling...what exactly, I'm not sure. Over two years, Anne grew in many ways. Her relationship with her family always seemed a bit rocky. Except with her dad. I often would try to imagine the scene and what happened after Anne closed her diary for the day. Would she sit and think until called away? The further I read I found myself checking how long before the last entry. I'd really like to know who the traitor was...

This is truly one of those books everyone should read at least once. The holocaust really happened. Innocent people died horrible, unthinkable and untimely deaths due to one evil dictator and his brainwashed followers. Thanks to this well-documented piece of history that was miraculously salvaged we are given the blunt truth and a glimpse into the everyday life of Jews in hiding. History is not something that can be erased or changed. It's called history because it IS history. What happened, happened and nothing can change it. However by learning from it, we can ensure that it will never again repeat itself.
