Mind over Magic by Lindsay Buroker
3.0
This was an interesting read. Nice world building and interesting characters. I am intrigued by the mystery enough to want to continue the series.
My major complaint is the constant mentions of the main character’s age. Being over 40 myself I rarely mention it and it certainly does not come up in every conversation I have. I was also a bit irked by the constant talk of her divorce and lost job. Maybe it is because I am more of a fixer than a moper. I am more solution based and don’t care to dwell on things as she does.
I also cannot relate to her relationship or lack of with her grandmother. I see my gram at least once a month if not more.
I am also hoping the pace picks up as the first book was a bit slow. This perhaps has to do with setting up exposition to move forward. I am also unsure if this is going to become a romance as the main characters barely had a hint of that flavor about them.
I listened to the audiobook and the narrator, Vivienne Leheny was terrific. She kept the flow nicely and had a lovely tone to listen to while working. I hope she stays with the series. Perhaps I will also look for more of her reads.
Overall I was satisfied with the read and hopefully for what the series holds!! This book ends with loose ends left to be explored.
