Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
5.0
Stunning novel, one of the best things I read at university. A post-colonial text in every way, Purple Hibiscus is equal parts heart-breaking and hopeful. I really can’t think of any part of it I didn’t enjoy. It always feels odd to genuinely love such an accurate portrayal of abuse – at times it was quite upsetting to read – but all the character work was so realistic nothing felt overly indulgent.
