I hoped all through book 1 that it was setting up for my favorite type of retelling. Now, having finished book 2, I can confirm that ABSOLUTELY IT WAS. 😈 I can’t even tell you what retelling it is without giving the end away.
Honestly, it’s hard to review this book without spoilers. I can’t say much of anything without tipping you off about….all the stuff.
SO. Read it. It’s much different than the first one, but not in a bad way. Just different. In an excellent way, tbh. I’m pleased.
If you like ACOTAR, read it. READ IT. If you like The Bridge Kingdom (book 1; forever mad about book 2), READ IT.
The main reason it got 4 stars from me is because of the overwhelming amount of similes and metaphors. It’s not as bad as Caraval (will never be over that one either), but it is a lot. They are all well written and do make sense. I just don’t care for seeing them every other paragraph. Not my cup of tea, you feel me?
But it’s not enough to detract from the plot or keep me from bothering everyone around me UNTIL THEY READ THIS.
