Loving Day by Mat Johnson
5.0
"People aren't social, they're tribal. Race doesn't exist, but tribes are fucking real."
This is just one of the many lines that I had to stop and read over and over again. There has LONG been a color war within the Black community and we owe it all to slavery. The house negro versus field negro has been passed down from generation to generation.
Loving Day takes a sobering and equally hilarious look at the color war that goes on not only within the black community, but in each and every black person's mind.
There is a question: are you black enough? All of the characters in this book fight with that question and fight to be accepted among their tribe because, as Warren pointed out in the book, tribes are fucking real.
Such a great read!
