Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Eleanor Coerr
5.0
Simple yet poignant. This fairly short book (read in 35 minutes) quietly builds the case for peace through the loss of one hopeful, reflective young girl without being preachy or heavy-handed. Deaths caused by US nuclear weapons in war are difficult subjects to broach with young children. This book is age appropriate for grade 3-5, if handled well with an adult.
