Beautifully written and illustrated. Our history is devastating and infuriating, and it’s necessary to know. I’m so grateful that kids now have more information more readily available to understand our relationships on this land and to give a foundation to understand our responsibilities to one another and to continue breaking cycles of colonial violence. This is a hard read for anyone with even a bit of empathy, which I find kids so often do; it’s also a hopeful one and a loving one in terms of Irene’s strength of spirit and her father’s clear conviction to protecting his children. Beautifully done.
