In the Lives of Puppets by TJ Klune
4.0
Have you ever read a book that made you want to buy a vacuum?
I never thought I’d say these words - but I need a talking Roomba in my life immediately.
In the Lives of Puppets was a quirky and charming story of found family and it’s like a comforting hug in book form. It’s described as a queer retelling of Pinnochio in an apocalyptic future where humans don’t exist... except for one named Vic, hidden away in the trees with his unique and ragtag family of “puppets." The machines - adorable Rambo the Roomba and sadistic Nurse Rached - are definitely my most favorite duo of book characters in a long time and I laughed so hard at their hilarious banter which was so perfectly voiced by Daniel Henning.
Full of hope, heart, and finding humanity in the most unexpected of places, it’s as warm and wonderful as it is witty and weird - and I enjoyed every minute.
