Amberlough by Lara Elena Donnelly
5.0
I picked this book up accidentally, and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
The book is written in such beautiful prose that I often mark the phrases that may not make sense out of context, but describe the scenario so perfectly in a way that I haven't read. The words glide so effortlessly over each other to paint a picture of the bustling Amberlough.
Espionage in fiction, to me, is a little saturated. I do not deny the appeal of it though, and can understand why there's so much of it since it's a really interesting way for characters to navigate. But in Amberlough, it shifts the focus, to not only the thrill of the chase, but also to how it affects everyone else.
And the characters! I loved seeing their perspectives through the pages, and their personalities just jumping out. I absolutely adore Cordelia, and by god she's a force to be reckoned with. I just know she'll be a pain in Acherby's backside - and I'm beyond excited for that.
