One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus
4.0
let me just start by saying how much i enjoyed this book. by no means is it a literary masterpiece, but it was so enjoyable. i wanted to do nothing but read this book.

for what it's worth, all of the characters were enjoyable and their own person. the main four, the murder club, all grew. they became better people by the end of the novel. the information given about the side characters changed the way the reader viewed them for the benefit of the story.
P L O T
the plot of this was extremely creative, but this is where 0.5 of a star is lost. the plot was very well done and very fast paced. i never got bored or wanted to do something else. i have never read anything of this nature and honestly believe the way this murder investigation is unique. i really appreciated how the epilogue wrapped everything up in a satisfying way.

however, up until the last fifty pages this would have received 4.5/5 stars. maybe i just had different expectations of who the killer was and how it would really play out, but... i was kinda disappointed with the true culprit. don't get me wrong, it was still very creative and well thought out, but the way it played out was kind of bland.

this is where the other half of a star is lost. by no means was the writing bad. it just wasn't blow-me-away or knock-your-socks-off. it was just... good.

i would definitely recommend this. it was such a fun and interesting read. i'm really glad i read it, but also kind of glad i got this at my library (support local libraries!!!!!!) and didn't purchase this. while it was great in the moment, i feel like it may be rather forgettable.
