I think this book was an improvement on Waiting for Tom Hanks. I definitely think that Kerry learned more about what readers want and, because we already knew these characters some from before, she was able to give us more development of Chloe and Nick’s relationship.
My big “issue,” for lack of better words, with these two stories is that the “I love you” feels unearned despite all the classic rom-com bits that happen in the story to lead us to that ending. I think because we’re not seeing it in the movie version it feels less believable. I would have preferred 50 more pages if it made me love the characters more.
At the end of the day, I think I’m realizing that I prefer the dual POV because Nick felt standoffish at times because of Chloe’s cluelessness. And Chloe began to be grating at times because she refused to let anyone else help her. And shifting perspectives would have accomplished the same character understanding, but would have broken up the single person narration in a way that was more compelling to read.
