The Secret History by Donna Tartt

4.0

Donna Tartt has done an excellent job writing about murder, lies and classical studies, all of which blend together in a suspenseful novel of moral issues.
The story is about Richard and his four friends Charles, Camilla, Francis and Henry. They are deeply involved in Greek studies and the Greek scene; during a bacchanal of which they lose control, a murder takes place. Bunny discovers it and turns to blackmail to get himself and his family out of a financial hole. The atmosphere is thick and tense; as you read on, it will become increasingly difficult to get out of the story and back into your real life. A tour de force.
The book is full of suspense, and as the danger increases, the secrets pile up, and the characters show their darker and darker sides.

I gave it four stars, "hum why not five then?". Well I enjoyed the book, but there were some failures, like the killing of innocent animals, the N word and the islamophobe nonetheless i find that was intended to make the story more realistic, and the author did it successfully because some of the characters had problems .
