The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

sad medium-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Loveable characters? It's complicated
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? Yes

The biggest issue were the characters but I can look past my hatred solely for that ending. Because wow.

Well written and even though I am not a fan of over the top prose, it fits best with mythological retellings if anything.

The memories come, and come. She listens, staring into the grain of stone. We are all there, goddess and mortal and the boy who was both.

Odysseus carried btw. And this part of his conversation with Pyrrhus made me giggle:

"Perhaps one day even I will be famous. Perhaps more famous than you."
"I doubt it"
Odysseus shrugs.
