The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco

4.0

I really enjoyed this book. The characters, worldbuilding and magic are strong. The narrative switch between past the past and present view of Tea kept me intrigued; from naive, powerful but untrained novice of her craft, to the present young woman of confidence and determination to see her plans go through no matter the cost.

I listened to the audiobook and I would recommend it if listening is more your jam.

I can understand why a lot of readers didn't get through this book: The Bone Witch sets up a lot of worldbuilding and the descriptions of the garments and ornaments the 'witches' wear are beautiful to read, but also pretty long. There are times where I wanted the plot to get on with it and get to the part where Tea becomes a badass. I'm afraid like most book situations, I just have to read the sequel (which I did and it was GREAT).
