I don’t often do sci fi unless it’s horror, and the genre plus potential alien smut sold me on the novella pretty quickly. The entire time I was reading I was riddled with questions upon questions, not from confusion so much as fascination with the world building and as a result of my imagination running wild. There’s a couple places I would flesh out more thoroughly — but even then I wonder if doing so would take away from the effect this little story manages to have so quickly.
It’s a bleary-eyed, hungover peek at a bunch of Big Unknowns in quick succession: the fate of the crew, the identity of the savior, the ceaseless sound reverberating through every molecule it can reach.
I very much enjoyed it, and I’ve been puzzling at the details since that first reading.
