Definitely a new favorite. I'm a sucker for post-apocalyptic books with just a tiny bit of hope at the end , and for nontraditional narrative structures, which this book had plenty of. Plus the motto of the Symphony was a Star Trek quote.
I actually think a major point of the narrative (and the importance of the clarinet's small storyline) is that "survival is insufficient" is itself insufficient, though. Better, perhaps, would be "preservation is insufficient".
