This was powerful, tragic and emotional.
This picks right up after the events in Tides of Deception, where Cassia and Louie's relationship had blossomed and all was set for their Kingdoms to have peace through their Union.
The first book was centred around political alliances and Cassia surviving in the new Kingdom against the Queen's scheming, but this one completely shifts focus to the mystical world of Atlantis leaving Louie behind, and we get to see the twin Princes Agenor and Belus fighting it out for Cassia's affection.
Now in the underwater Kingdom Cassia must adapt to being a mermaid, recover from her awakening, and fight her conflicted feelings.
I loved the mix of Mermaid lore intertwined with the Greek Gods. There are some fantastic revelations and twists, and Cassia gets to explore her powers and new abilities.
I love that this has multiple POV so while the main plot is focussed on the events in Atlantis, we still get glimpses into what's happening on land, all the trauma, plotting and resentment, and Liz's grand adventures which i'm intrigued to see how her story will progress. It's entertaining seeing Agenor and Belus's POV too as they compete and try to outwit each other.
This introduces some new enemies, the Gods scheming, and tragic backstory reveals. It's definitely an emotional read, with dramatic twists and shifts in love interests, just when it has you rooting for one, it throws a devastating curveball!
Can't wait for book 3's twists.
