This was a fun, quick horror novella about a group of varying friendliness who take midnight smoke breaks in an old cemetery, as it’s the only place on a college campus where you can technically smoke. One day, 200 years since the last body is buried there, a hole appears.
What follows is the rest of the night, with each chapter being a different person’s perspective. A lot of backstory and characterization is filtered in quickly and with a deft hand, leaving you ready for more information rather than overloaded.
Ultimately it felt like a really good TTRPG session. The group is presented with a mystery, everyone approaches it from different angles and cooperates in sometimes surprising ways, and at the end there’s a solution to the question of the night, even if that doesn’t equal a solution for everything.
