I am not a huge plain romance reader normally and would not even touch a romance book if there is not a huge fantasy setting as part of it. I am so glad I decided to try this book anyways, because I really enjoyed the cute story and characters.
This book is pretty dark and gore-y, but it didn't bother me too much even as someone super squeamish about blood. I loved the main characters Sloane and Rowan and their slow burn relationship as they get to know each other over 4-5 years. They are both serial killers, the former of which is more timid and flighty while the latter is extremely extroverted and does everything he can to keep Sloane around. Despite all the murder and gore, I found this story about their relationship to be very sweet and that I was rooting for it to work between them.
This book is very simple and doesn't go super deep into any kind of lore or conspiracies. It is very surface level and I found the "twist" at the end to be pretty predictable but it did not bother me because I still had immense fun reading it. I also read this book after an extremely lore heavy series, so it was nice to have a mental break and just read a simplistic story about two serial murderers falling in love. This book was a lot funnier than I expected as well; I am not normally one to laugh out loud at books but there were a few times I did with this.
Do not read this book if you are expecting some grand plot with fully built characters and an overarching conspiracy. Do read it if you want a cute book that follows 2 people with untraditional hobbies that will have you thinking "why do I love and stan these serial killers so much?". I am excitedly awaiting the sequel, which is supposedly following the POV of 2 other characters.
