I really liked the bizarre-ness of the story, I loved the twist that Victoria’s letter at the end brings in, and that we’re left to decide for ourselves who’s telling the truth (I tend to think it’s her) . I would have preferred that Alasdair Gray’s footnotes listed at the end had been integrated either with numbered notes to reference as you go along or as actual footnotes on the page (most preferable), I’m not sure I see the benefit to reading them all at once at the end and to me it felt oddly disruptive to the flow of the story.
Graphic: Racism
Moderate: Confinement, Gun violence, Suicide, and Medical trauma
Minor: Child death, Death, Domestic abuse, Emotional abuse, Infertility, Forced institutionalization, and Abortion
