Is Mother Dead by Vigdis Hjorth

5.0

It took me a minute to get into this but then it completely sucked me in… It’s a very intriguingly written story about the character’s desperate longing to feel/be understood (and she gets more and more desperate on every page). It pulls you deep into the wounded interior of her mind as she recounts and doubts both her own memory as well as the memories belonging to her family, while simultaneously pulling you into the changing atmosphere of the woods around the cabin she rents by writing beautiful passages on nature alongside the sadder ones in which she aims to piece together her childhood with her present…
So sad but so good.
