The absolute impotent rage I felt during the first few chapters of this book. Whoo!

This is a very heavy read. It’s trauma centered, with the first few chapters going into graphic detail of that trauma and the rest of it centering on the main characters working through and navigating the FMC’s PTSD and rape recovery. The spice in this one is central to the plot, but if spice is the reason you’re here, maybe save this one for another time. It’s mostly used as an anchor for the FMC’s recovery.

The star crossed inevitability of these two just gutted me while reading this. I never doubted they would persevere, but goddamn was it a hard road to get there. They earned their happy ending with blood and tears.

I wouldn’t recommend this to a casual fluffy romance reader. Similarly, though it has dark elements, it doesn’t feel like a dark romance, either. In fact, except for the spice, I would feel confident recommending this for a literary book club.

So if you’re in the mood for something moving, something that has the power to hurt you, I highly recommend this book.
