Bryony and Roses by T. Kingfisher
5.0
I was really surprised by this book. I’ve read quite a few Beauty and the Beast retellings - it’s one of my favorite stories. But this one was different because it was so light, and even funny. The beast wasn’t a brooding, haughty character and the friendship that developed between he and Bryony actually felt very natural. But despite the levity the story still had the sense of forbidding woven through that should come with all good fairytales. It was a short book too but didn’t feel like it was lacking because of that. I will definitely be reading more from this author.
