Lyla Sage has done it again for me. This time, I get to see Wes, the middle child of the Ryder siblings, and Ada, Teddy’s interior design friend, fall in love while they renovate the old main house to turn it into a guest ranch.
I love this whole family so much. They rib each other in the best way, while also knowing when to leave each other alone and let them figure things out on their own. While Wes didn’t exactly need help in that department, I think it’s set up to come into play in the next book. The sibling dynamics just continue to make me feel warm and fuzzy in these books, and also remind me some of my own.
Ada’s story is sad and understandable. Society puts such a stress on women doing things the “right” away, and she fell right down that rabbit hole. I’m so glad that she not only made it out, but found herself and real love in the process of healing. I still REALLY want to know what that phone call was about, but I love that she had the strength to not let it concern her.
Wes might be my favorite MMC in the series so far. He is unforgivable himself, honest about his own struggles, and is so confident in his connection with Ada that he will let her run, knowing she’ll come back. He is also a great representation of male mental health, which we desperately need more of today.
