This book picks up relatively quickly after Mira’s Last Dance and wraps up the storyline that began with Penric’s Mission. I enjoyed all the new characters who were introduced, and a few moments when Penric’s clever plans did not survive contact with reality. It’s also clear that Bujold’s writing has improved since she began the series – I’m finding it much easier to follow along with who’s speaking, and the winter banter has become significantly more witty. Definitely looking forward to continuing the series.
