Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice

3.0

Honestly, as glad as I am to have finally read it, Interview with the Vampire really dragged for me. I find myself not particularly enjoying stories told in formats like this, an interview in this case, but also another recent read was Dracula which is also told in diary entries, newspaper articles, letters between the characters, etc. For the first 100 pages or so I was super invested, and then I was dragging my feet until the very end when the drama amped all the way up.

It was definitely just as poetic and pretty and depressing as I expected though! Louis is so miserable! And Claudia… my heart breaks so deeply for Claudia. The way she was treated was weird, to say the least. Truly there isn’t much I can say that hasn’t already been said about this book or about Anne Rice’s writing. I might continue the series at some point, I’d love to learn more about Lestat and Armand. I will definitely be watching the AMC show though, I know they take a lot of creative liberty with it and I’d love to see the changes! Especially since I’ve heard about Rice taking ~issue~ with fanfiction of her work lol

“And all this time I was educating Claudia, whispering in her tiny seashell ear that our eternal life was useless to us if we did not see the beauty around us, the creation of mortals everywhere…”
