Don’t even know where to begin with this one. I’m already not a fan of stream of consciousness. I don’t think anyone enjoys a paragraph that last three whole pages. And then the story was…interesting. There’s a lot to unpack and there were elements that were super fascinating. Annelise’s whole essay on the use of white in horror stories was great. But I often felt like half the book was for pure shock value, which fits given the characters are teen girls who intrinsically want to one-up each other in all things, but my god this went places. And I guess I’m left wondering what the point of this was? Other than mother and daughter relationships are fucked up and that can translate into fucked up relationships in your life later which…yeah. But just watch season 2 of Russian Doll instead actually.
