The Root of It by K. L. Thorne

5.0

Before I realised I had read most of this in a morning, the story just flowed. I can't recall any other books set in a dental practice, but I can totally get on board; I totally have a thing for my dentist! Written in single POV from Max, we meet him on his first morning in his new dental nurse job. He certainly did not expect his assigned dentist to be so gorgeous. He is so affected by Rowan, it consumes him. We don't know Rowan has feelings until he can't hold himself back, and that encounter was seriously hot. This is not a straightforward relationship, Rowan is still legally married, and for the sake of his daughter the pretence is real. However, the marriage has been dead for years and he and his wife have very separate lives. Feelings get bigger and things need to change. Secets are exhausting and unfair and Rowan has a lot to think about. Their intimacy is hot with lots of steam, but, keeping their feelings behind closed doors cannot go on much longer. There is some angst and as predicted Rowan's daughter is the one who ends up getting hurt. I am glad Rowan held onto Max so strong, it showed how much he loves him and how serious he is about their relationship. This book ends with a two year epilogue which gives us a happy ending for everyone concerned. I loved Max' friendship with Becca, it added a fun element that took the pressure off the underlying stress. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
