I haven't read much vampire romance before but maybe I really was missing out after having read this.
This book is a MM slowburn romance and oh yes was it slow, but the right kind of slow burn that made me binge the whole book in two days because I just needed Vincent and Wesley to get together ASAP.
These two cuties meet at the start of the book where Vincent feeds on Wesley while he is sleeping, creepy as fuck to be honest but Wesley is actually kind of into it. Which... well yes that definitely can be sexy I give him that. When Wesley proposes for Vincent to keep feeding on him I totally felt that skittishness Vincent had of just running away, but am I glad he did not.
Because of this feeding arrangement there is sexual tension from the start. Not that the main characters acknowledged that but that makes for an even better story.
I won't spoil much more, but when they finally got together.... that was some good reading with tears for me.
The book also has a subplot regarding a fairly evil corporation doing tests on vampires. Adding this next to the story gave us the great opportunities for fight scenes to happen that fit oh so well into the story. I greatly enjoyed these moments in the book with physical action and everything leading up to them so full of tension. That Wesley secretly tried to use Vincent to get inside of this place made for a good double agenda story that made the romantic moments good and painful while Vincent was still unaware.... which I absolotely loved.
There were also some great queer jokes sprinkled in that made me crackle and relay them to my boyfriend straight away.
This book was a great enjoyment and made sure to read the second straight after.
