I was so intrigued by the title, but the book fell a little flat for me. I understand that due to the setting and the type of story being told that the main character's feelings and motivations were nuanced and somewhat conflicted, but I just felt kind of confused. I didn't find any of the characters particularly likable, and while I realize that was most likely intentional, I didn't find them very interesting either. I liked some elements. I enjoyed the commentary on exclusion and privilege. I liked the gothic horror aspects, the catacombs and the rivers from the Underworld. I think my major issue though was that I felt the main character accepted the fact that there's these primordial gods attached to rivers from the Underworld who exist in a pocket dimension type of place that offers deals for blood a little too quickly. It kind of jerked me out the story, I won't lie. It just wasn't the book for me.
