Colleen Hoover is the queen of tugging on our heartstrings, making us emotional, and wrecking us in ways we result in us having book hangovers for days… or even longer. Before reading, “Reminders of Him”, I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect, other than the brief synopsis that most people mentioned about the book. Right away from the beginning, you get the question answered as to why this book was titled the way that it is. This story was emotional, dealt with the death of a loved one, emotional heartbreak, family, and trying to find your way back after committing a wrong, one that not everyone has forgiven.

Kenna was a woman who wanted nothing more than to be reunited with her daughter, but after severing five years in prison for a crime she committed, there are people in Diem, Kenna’s daughter, who don’t want Kenna near Diem at all. Kenna was faced with a lot from having to find her footing in a world that she left a long time ago, trying to move forward despite the crime of her past always remaining as a reminder. Once you read more about Kenna, you’ll feel sympathetic to her situation as want to give her a big comforting hug.

Now while everyone isn’t welcoming or forgiven Kenna for what she did in the past, there was one person who seemed to give Kenna a chance… and his name was Ledger. At first glance, Ledger just seemed like the cool, handsome, bad boy bar owner, but really he had much more depth to him such as, caring and loving Diem. When you read the story, you’ll find out Ledger’s connection to Diem. I loved how kind and warm-hearted Ledger was to Diem and it was evident through his actions how much he loved and adored her.  When it came to Kenna, Ledger was immediately drawn to her, even before he found out who she was, he felt like he couldn’t take his eyes off her (aww how romantic). Even after Ledger found out who Kenna really was, he could have easily turned her away, but being the understanding man that he was, he helped Kenna when no one else would.

There were moments I was genuinely concerned for how things would turn out for Kenna, Diem, and Ledger. Kenna’s situation affected those around her specifically her daughters and her grandparents lives. Kenna was seen was a reminder of a bad memory, and all Kenna wanted was to try and see her daughter. I was on edge hoping things would work out for the best, and everyone’s feelings wouldn’t get hurt… at least not too much. I felt conflicted because, I could understand each characters point of view and how they felt. My heart would go towards Kenna, but then I would also understand Ledger’s.

Colleen once again wrote a beautiful story and treated with kindness and justice. I liked the way Kenna’s story ended, the way things worked out for her with Diem and Ledger. Not to mention the epilogue was heartwarming and sweet. I especially loved the moments towards the ending, highly recommend reading this book.
