I had to be strong every moment of my life, in control, indomitable. But with Eric? It was easy to give him the reins because I knew he wouldn’t abuse the privilege, even if the inhuman growling still sent chills down my spine.

You ever start reading a book and think to yourself ‘this book was made for me’? That’s what happened with this one. I can only assume this will be my top read of October. It just had everything I want in a book. Lots of action, violence, mortal peril and suspense, as well as a genuine connection between MCs where spice was the result of their love and not the main focus, as well as some truly funny scenes. Oh, and the delicious possessiveness and protectiveness. Agh, it really had it all.

Knowing how easily promises could be broken, I didn’t make them lightly. But I would move heaven and earth for him until the day I died — that was my real promise, even if I could never tell him that.

This was my third Ashlyn Drewek book and I can only take this as a sign that I need to try more. The writing is amazing and the stories feel original. Even if you’ve read something that sounds similar, this author definitely makes the tropes their own.

I kept my head down, scribbling at my desk and checking my phone in case I didn’t hear it vibrate. Not that Eric texted. Ever. I’d given him shit for it once and he responded with a lengthy diatribe about the decline of interpersonal communication in the twenty-first century.

If you enjoy police procedure and/or vampire romance, I so highly recommend this book.

Bracing for the cooing and hair petting, I opened my eyes slowly. It didn’t come. No one greeted me, just that stupid machine. No one waited wistfully. No one paced my bedside, hands wringing. I was alone. Thank God. I hated when people made a fucking spectacle of things.

Feigning confusion, I frowned and leaned away, not saying a word. When a human saw something unnatural it was best to let them gaslight themselves into believing a different series of events occurred.

“Coming from the man who drinks pig’s blood…” I started in on my third taco, not the least bit put off. It meant there was more for me. “It’s practical,” he sighed. “I need something on hand when I forget to eat.” “I never ‘forget’ to eat.” “I know.” He laughed a little harder than I considered good fun.
