This was amazing and powerful and heart-wrenching and definitely didn't end up with me sobbing in my car on the way to work in the morning. This short but fierce novel-in-verse had me hooked from the very first line and never let me go through to the very last. I thought it was really phenomenal how many themes and relationships Elizabeth Acevedo was able to touch on in such profound ways while maintaining a fast-paced entertaining narrative. She also narrates it herself, and the performance is a true masterclass in slam poetry. The whole thing is just so, so well done!
