For this being one of my first (if not my first) real YA anthologies read, I really enjoyed it! I’m not a very large short story lover so I went into this with doubts. I am happy the book was better than what I had anticipated and I love how well the stories portrayed their represented character’s sexuality and/or gender. There was nothing but respect (and history lessons 😉) in the stories.

There are some fresh, memorable stories in this anthology. Some of my favorites were by Shaun David Hutchinson, Elliot Wake, Mackenzi Lee, Robin Talley and Tess Sharpe. They took their time to develop a thoughtful plot and conclusion, which is what I usually struggle to find in short stories. The endings are usually unsatisfying or the romance moves too quickly but the authors in this anthology did an overall great job with their pacing and control. A speedy romance and/or unsatisfactory ending was usually the reason for my much lower star rating on certain stories.

The majority all of these stories take place in Europe or in the North America. I wish there had been more diversity in geography (maybe some LGBT+ in China, India, Brazil, or Saudi Arabia.) since we were getting a historical sense of the LGBT+ scene of the (far and near) past. The European and North American scenes were familiar but I wish there had been more risk. I can’t complain too much though. The stories were very good for the most part and I discovered new authors, through reading there short stories.

I hope you guys read this anthology and the major works by authors like Mackenzi Lee, Shaun David Hutchinson, Alex Sanchez, and Anna-Marie McLemore. They are amazing writers.
